Happy 2023 friend! I don’t know about you, but in a way, I am feeling like this year is a new start whereas 2022 felt to me like a continuation of 2021 – it was a weird feeling but I am so thankful for the “fresh” start!
So to kick off the new year, there’s quite some catching up to do on the moments captured at the end of last year, starting with Shawna & Jyrah!
Shawna contacted me in the middle of 2022, explaining how she wanted to elope in Franschhoek with her fiance Jyrah. Originally from the USA, the couple has been together for more than 3 years after meeting on Social Media through mutual family members. They finally met in person when they attended a wedding together and the rest was history! But their seeming fairy tale story was not without woes, Shawna and Jyrah had to do the relationship long distance for quite some time. Their love however never wavered, even though it included many 4-hour drives just to see each other for the weekend.
The couple had initially planned on getting married in 2020, but as so many brides and grooms experienced, that was just not in the cards. So when COVID simmered down, they started their planning from scratch! They had wanted to do an elopement from the start, but the location was one that they couldn’t decide on until Shawna discovered this beautiful Airbnb and that was it – they were eloping in Franschhoek!
Shawna & Jyrah said their “I Do’s” at sunset, surrounded by the Franschhoek mountains as well as their closest loved ones, while the ceremony was officiated by Shawna’s grandfather. It was such an intimate celebration where they were cloaked by the love of their family and friends, as well as the presence of God – something that was important to the couple.
