Engagement Sessions, or as I prefer to call them, Connection Sessions, truly are one of my favourite parts of capturing your wedding journey. The reason why I don’t call them Engagement Sessions, is because – the name kind of gives it away – they are truly about connection. It is a way for the two of you and me to build up a relationship and ease you into the way I take photos (making it easier and more stress-free on your big day!), but more importantly, it’s a way for the two of you to slow down and have a moment to dress up, take some pretty photos and take a moment to truly appreciate this special time in your lives as well as your relationship.
As Connection Sessions are really about you and your love for your fiancé, your images should illustrate that through your style and your location. When thinking about your Connection Session location, think about an area that really reflects who you two are as a couple, as well as individuals. Are you coffee fanatics or just love a good pint of beer? Booking a session at a downtown Cape Town coffee shop or any of our breweries could be just right for you. If you are a couple who loves to camp, having a session at your favourite nature reserve could be a great option. Keep in mind that some of the best locations are a little quirky and unique. Think outside the box and if you have a concept or theme in mind, keep me informed and I’ll try to offer you a location that best suits your style!
Having said that, I just wanted to give you some inspiration for locations that I absolutely love.
Vergelegen Wine Estate
Located in Somerset West, this wine estate has the most gorgeous and versatile location. From its polished lawns, to the extensive gardens & forests, your images will always look fantastic and timeless in this location. The Stables restaurant is one of the finest in my opinion, so why not make a date day and stay for some lunch? 😉
*Entrance fees do apply
Signal Hill
While this location is a popular tourist location, it is also such a gorgeous photo location! Especially at sunset, you are guaranteed the most beautiful backdrop as well as colours. One thing to consider though is that the Cape Town wind came come and play as well!
Lourensford Wine Estate
Right next to Vergelegen Wine Estate, this estate has a completely different vibe. Also housing an amazing coffee shop as well as restaurant, this again is a great opportunity for you and your significant other to spend some time together after your Connection Session!
The beach
Beaches always create the most fun sessions! Especially if you’re an active couple, expect a lot of running and playing during your session. There are many beautiful beaches around Cape Town, but similar to Signal Hill – beware the wind!
Cape Town CBD
If you’re looking for a more sophisticated, stylish feel, what about meeting in town early morning? There are so many beautiful architectural places in town, and with the reflected light all around, it creates some amazing images.
These are just some suggestions, but if you think of a location that suits you and your partner – please let me know! I love shooting at new locations, and especially if there’s a location that means a lot to you guys, I’m all in. The below image was taken in the bar where the couple met, and it still is one of the most memorable sessions I’ve done to date!
